Iraq Announces Significant Light Crude Discovery in Najaf Province
The Ministry of Oil in Iraq announced a significant discovery of light crude oil in Najaf province's Al-Qarnain exploration block. According to spokesperson Salim Al-Rikabi, the discovery will boost light crude production and support the energy system.
Exploration activities have made significant progress, with a two-dimensional seismic survey completed and old and new seismic data being processed for upcoming stages.
The first exploration well revealed promising hydrocarbon indications of light crude oil, prompting the evaluation programme to begin drilling the first evaluation well out of three designated wells.
The Oil Ministry has emphasized that the project remains in the exploration evaluation phase and has not yet entered the development and commercial production phase, preventing disclosure of specific details such as oil reserves size or targeted production capacity.
