Iraq Confirms Pipeline Attacks Originated From Its Territory
The Iraqi government has confirmed that attacks on Saudi Arabia's major oil pipeline originated from its own territory. The East-West pipeline, which is crucial to Saudi Arabia's continued oil exports, was shut down by Saudi authorities as a precautionary measure.
According to the International Energy Agency, Saudi oil exports through the Red Sea port at the pipeline's end have more than doubled since the Iran war disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iraqi government has pledged to investigate further and has already dismissed its commander in Maysan province, where the attacks were launched. The Saudi Foreign Ministry blamed the attacks on several drones that came from Iraq and said the kingdom would not retaliate to give the Iraqi government an opportunity to take necessary measures.
