Iraq Doubles Gas Output at War-Damaged Field with New Contract

Iraq has awarded a 25-year contract to local company Kar Electrical Power Production Trading to increase gas production at the Ajeel field in Saladin province.

The contract will more than double gas output from 135 million cubic feet per day to 300 million cf/d and raise oil production from 30,000 barrels per day to 40,000 bpd.

This move is part of Iraq's efforts to increase its domestic gas production and reduce reliance on imports from Iran.

The Ajeel field was severely damaged by Islamic State militants nearly a decade ago and has since operated below capacity. Iraq aims to generate 12,000 megawatts from renewable sources by 2030 and become self-sufficient in natural gas by 2029.
