Iraq Linked to Drone Attack on Saudi Oil Pipeline
Iraq's government confirmed on Saturday that attacks on a key Saudi oil pipeline had originated from Iraqi territory. The attack was described as a 'precautionary measure' by Riyadh, which decided to shut down the pipeline in response to a drone strike on Friday.
The Iraqi government has since dismissed the military commander and police chief of Maysan province, an area known for its Iran-backed Shiite militias. Iraq also closed the main border crossing in Maysan.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but US President Donald Trump suggested that Iran was 'probably' behind it. The Houthis, an Iran-backed militia controlling parts of Yemen, have imposed a blockade on Saudi Arabia since July and seized the Red Sea port city of Mokha earlier this week.
