Iraq Oil Exports Surge to Two Million Barrels Per Day Amid Iran War Tensions
Iraq's oil exports reached two million barrels per day in August, a record high since the Iran war began. This is up from July's 49 million barrels of oil exported.
The country normally exports around 100 million barrels of crude monthly, but volumes have plummeted since the US and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran in February, prompting the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
With shipping disrupted through the strait, Iraq's oil storage capacity came under severe pressure, forcing it to cut production sharply. However, the country has managed to turn to alternative routes, using oil tankers via Syria and pipelines through Turkey to export its oil.
