Iraq Seeks Special Consideration from Iran on Strait of Hormuz Oil Exports
High-level talks between Iraq and Iran have focused on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade and economic fields. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf met with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed al-Halbousi to discuss cooperation across various sectors. Al-Halbousi raised the issue of special consideration for oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting Iraq's vulnerability due to regional developments.
Qalibaf emphasized Iran's commitment to deepening ties with Iraq and other regional countries without foreign interference. He described the relationship between Iranian and Iraqi people as 'historic and inseparable' and stressed the importance of cooperation in areas such as politics, culture, and security.
The talks also touched on the activation of parliamentary 'friendship committees' and enhanced diplomacy between the two national assemblies. Qalibaf is expected to travel to Karbala to attend a ceremony marking 40 days since the burial of Iran's late supreme leader.
