Iraq Surpasses 3 Million BPD Oil Exports, Targets 5M via New Routes

Iraq's crude oil export capacity has surpassed 3 million barrels per day (bpd), according to Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair. This achievement comes as Baghdad works towards increasing its exports to 5 million bpd through new routes.

The government aims to reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz, which has been disrupted due to tensions between Washington and Tehran. To achieve this goal, Iraq is developing strategic pipelines linking its fields to Fishkhabur in the north and Syria's Mediterranean port of Banias.

The northern route will connect southern oil fields with Fishkhabur near the Turkish border, providing access to the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline and Türkiye's Mediterranean port of Ceyhan. The western route will link Haditha with Syria's Banias port, offering another outlet to the Mediterranean and reviving a historic oil corridor between the two countries.
