Iraqi-Backed Militias Target Saudi Oil Facilities Again
Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province oil facilities were targeted for the second consecutive day by drone attacks originating from Iraqi territory, according to Saudi authorities. The drones were intercepted and destroyed by Saudi air defenses before reaching their intended targets.
The attack is attributed to Iran-backed militias operating from Iraqi soil, with Major General Turki Al-Maliki stating that 'the actions are terrorist attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure.' He emphasized the kingdom's right to defend its assets and reserved the option to respond at a later time.
Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry has urged Baghdad to take measures to prevent further launches from its soil, while Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has ordered an investigation into the incident. The attacks come amid ongoing regional tensions and constraints on Saudi crude oil export routes.
