Iraqi Militias Target Saudi Oil Facilities for Second Day
Militias in Iraq have launched drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities for the second day in a row, adding to the pressure on Riyadh. The Saudi Defense Ministry confirmed that drones were intercepted on Tuesday, but did not provide information on potential damage to the facilities.
The attacks are part of an ongoing escalation between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed militias in Iraq, which have been targeting oil facilities in the kingdom's Eastern Region. Similar attacks were carried out from Iraq on Monday, and the Saudi government has called on Iraq to take steps to prevent its territory being used as a launching pad for such attacks.
The conflict is also tied to the ongoing maritime blockade limiting Saudi Arabia's crude oil shipments. The Houthis in Yemen have announced a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia, in response to what they say was the kingdom's siege of Sanaa. The group has since attacked tankers linked to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.
