Iraqi President Warns of Global Consequences in Strait of Hormuz Developments
President Nizar Amidi of Iraq spoke at the eighth Baghdad Dialogue conference in Baghdad, citing difficulties in transporting Iraqi oil due to the lack of a national tanker fleet. He stated that some vessels carrying Iraqi oil are being facilitated through the Strait of Hormuz.
Amidi emphasized that developments in the strait have global implications and affect not only Iraq but the entire world. He stressed that Baghdad is working to avoid becoming involved in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US, which has significant consequences for the country.
The Iraqi president also spoke about domestic security, calling for dialogue and understanding with armed groups to bring weapons under state control through an Iraqi national solution. Amidi denied that Iran had asked Baghdad to delay efforts to bring weapons under state control and stated that Iraqi officials have affirmed this is an Iraqi decision.
