IRGC Warns Shipping Companies After Oil Tanker Explosion in Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned shipping companies after two oil tankers exploded in the Strait of Hormuz, which they claim were hit by mines.
In a statement, the IRGC said that the vessels 'hit mines, exploded and were brought to a halt' while on fire. The ships had allegedly disembarked their crews and were handed over to personnel linked to the US military to pass through what the IRGC described as an 'illegal route'.
The IRGC has threatened 'additional punitive measures' against shipping companies that allow their vessels to use the route instead of what Tehran considers the authorised passage. The statement also said recent US military actions would not weaken Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz.
