J&K's National Gas Grid Connection Faces Timeline Challenge
The planned entry of Jammu and Kashmir into the National Gas Grid has hit a timeline challenge. The July 2026 deadline for completing the Gurdaspur-Jammu pipeline, which is crucial to connecting the Union Territory with the gas grid, has already passed.
According to a report by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on 'Supply and Distribution of Natural Gas, Challenges and Prospects', the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) authorized GAIL India Limited in July 2023 to lay the 160-km pipeline with an authorized capacity of 3.1 million metric standard cubic metres per day (MMSCMD).
The report, however, does not provide any updated information on whether the project has been completed or commissioned.
