JANAF Secures US Sanctions Waiver for Oil Transport to Serbia

Croatia's oil pipeline operator JANAF has secured another US sanctions waiver until September 30, 2026. This allows it to continue transporting crude oil for Serbia's NIS despite ongoing issues related to Russian ownership and US sanctions.

JANAF obtained the extension from the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in cooperation with the Croatian Government and its American lawyers.

The decision is significant because NIS is one of JANAF's most important customers, accounting for 10 million tonnes of crude oil to be transported between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2026. The pipeline plays a crucial role in Serbia's energy supply, with the Pančevo refinery supplying approximately 80 percent of the country's domestic oil demand.

JANAF stressed its focus on maintaining the security of supply and stability of the energy system across Southeast Europe, emphasizing its position as an operator of strategically important energy infrastructure.
