Japan Bolsters Diplomatic Efforts on Middle East Waterway Security
Japan is taking steps to ensure safe passage through two crucial Middle East waterways. Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi visited Saudi Arabia and Oman, key players in the region, for six days to discuss free and secure navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The straits are critical transport routes for Middle East crude oil, and Japan is looking to play an active role in maintaining their security. During his visit, Motegi emphasized Japan's willingness to participate in Oman's ongoing desalination project.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has also engaged with Middle Eastern leaders over the phone to explore cooperation on regional issues.
