Japan Seeks Energy Ties with Gulf States Amid Iran Tensions
Japan's Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu met with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Riyadh on Wednesday to discuss strengthening economic ties between their countries. The meeting came as part of Japan's efforts to boost oil reserves in the Asia region, a goal outlined in its 'POWERR Asia' initiative.
Motegi conveyed Japan's desire for close ties with Saudi Arabia due to the country's abundant energy resources, which Motegi believes will help alleviate Japan's reliance on imported energy. Prince Faisal welcomed Japan's initiative and expressed his country's commitment to securing energy supplies for the international market, including Japan.
The two foreign ministers also discussed the importance of ensuring free and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz without additional costs. Motegi reaffirmed Japan's continued diplomatic efforts to secure a final agreement between the US and Iran, with an emphasis on finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions in the region.
