Japan Unveils Plan to Diversify Energy Imports Amid Middle East Tensions

Japan is poised to unveil an energy import diversification plan that will reduce its reliance on Middle Eastern oil and gas. The plan includes stipulations for supporting pipelines in the region, aimed at diverting export oil flows away from the Strait of Hormuz.

The Japanese government has been working to diversify its energy imports since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran broke out. This effort has included securing alternative suppliers such as the United States, Canada, African oil producers, and Azerbaijan.

However, this diversification has come at a cost, with Japan's total import bill hitting an all-time high of $76.39 billion last month due to higher international oil prices.
