Japan Unveils POWERR GX Initiative to Boost Energy Resilience
On August 26, 2026, Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi held the 17th meeting of the GX Implementation Council at his office. The council discussed supply situations for critical goods affected by the Middle East situation and how to accelerate Japan's GX initiatives toward enhancing energy supply-demand structure resilience.
Prime Minister Takaichi praised the council members' efforts, citing a series of emergency measures taken in response to the Middle East situation, including releasing oil reserves ahead of other countries. He noted that as a result of these efforts, consultations about bottlenecks in petroleum product supplies have dramatically decreased.
The Prime Minister emphasized that instead of restricting demand through regulatory measures, his cabinet has focused on resolving difficulties faced in essential areas for people's lives and livelihoods while avoiding stagnation in domestic economic activity. He also mentioned the introduction of subsidies for fuel oil to mitigate price fluctuations.
