Jefferies Predicts Boost to Hindustan Zinc Earnings from Zinc-Silver Prices
Hindustan Zinc's share price surged by 5% on August 26 after global brokerage Jefferies made a bullish call on zinc and silver prices. The firm said that favourable trends in these commodity markets could provide a significant boost to the company's earnings.
Hindustan Zinc, India's largest integrated zinc-lead-silver producer, operates mines and smelting facilities primarily in Rajasthan. The company is a subsidiary of Vedanta group and benefits directly from strength in either metal's pricing.
The company's revenue and profitability are directly tied to global zinc and silver prices, as it sells its metal output at market rates. Rising prices improve realisations and expand margins given Hindustan Zinc's relatively fixed cost structure.
