Jordan Expands Natural Gas Network to Industrial Clusters
Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh announced that his ministry is pushing forward with strategic projects to expand Jordan's natural gas network to industrial clusters across the kingdom. The goal of these projects, as part of the Economic Modernisation Vision, is to reduce energy costs and enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector.
The minister said that replacing diesel with natural gas can cut industrial fuel costs by up to 50%. He also noted that the government aims to provide diversified energy sources at competitive prices. So far, the natural gas network has reached Al Qastal and Al Hashimiyah industrial zones, and the Prime Minister inaugurated a new facility in Aqaba today.
Kharabsheh stated that his ministry is working to extend natural gas to other areas, including Muwaqqar Industrial Zone and Ma'an Development Zone. The minister also mentioned that the development of the Risha gas field is progressing as planned, with an 80-well drilling program aiming to increase production to approximately 418 million cubic feet per day by 2029.
He emphasized that this output will exceed the electricity sector's current demand and added that a pipeline linking production from the Risha field to the Arab Gas Pipeline is being constructed. Kharabsheh also highlighted the significance of the gasification plant inaugurated by the Prime Minister, which converts imported liquefied natural gas into its gaseous form for distribution through the national pipeline network.
