Jordan Leverages Location in Pursuit of Energy Security
Jordan's Energy Diplomacy Focuses on Location and Diversification
The country is leveraging its strategic location at the intersection of the Levant, Iraq, the Arabian Peninsula, and the eastern Mediterranean to reduce its energy vulnerability.
Jordan does not have significant oil or gas reserves, but it has developed a 2025-2035 Energy Strategy that prioritizes diversification and interconnection to manage its dependence on external energy sources.
The strategy involves expanding production from the Risha gas field, increasing the share of renewables in electricity generation, and connecting Jordan's energy infrastructure with neighboring countries, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Syria.
