KAMAZ Mass-Produces LNG Trucks with 60% Fuel Savings
KAMAZ-54901 trucks running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) are being mass-produced, according to Maxim Kadakov, a journalist for Za Rulem. These vehicles have two cryotanks with a capacity of 530 liters each, where methane is stored at -162 °C.
The gas engine produces 460 hp and 2000 Nm of torque, slightly lower than its diesel counterpart's 482 hp and 2400 Nm. However, Kadakov notes that the difference in dynamics is almost imperceptible, with significant cost savings being the main advantage.
The price of LNG is approximately 57.8 rubles per kilogram, which is about 60% lower than diesel fuel. This translates to substantial savings for high-mileage vehicles, potentially reaching one million rubles per year. The network of cryogenic gas stations already covers key regions, including Moscow to Irkutsk.
KAMAZ trucks on LNG are being used by logistics companies like Natkar in cities such as Moscow, Krasnodar, Rostov, Yekaterinburg, and Novosibirsk. The cabin offers comfort and convenience for drivers, with features including two sleeping places and a multimedia complex.
