Kazakhstan Seeks Six-Month Ban on Wheat Imports Amid Russian Surge

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Agriculture has proposed a six-month ban on wheat imports from all sources, except for the Food Corporation. This move comes as the country sees a significant surge in grain supplies from Russia.

The ban aims to protect local producers during the new-crop marketing period by reducing pressure from imported grain on Kazakhstan's domestic market.

In the 2025/26 season, Kazakhstan imported 1.92 million tons of wheat from Russia between September and July, a 5.9 times increase compared to the same period in the previous season.
