Kazakhstan Tightens Wheat Import Restrictions Amid Russian Export Pressures

Kazakhstan is planning to tighten its restrictions on wheat imports in a move that could impact Russian wheat exports. According to a draft government resolution, the country will remove poultry producers and grain processors from the list of exempted buyers.

This means that rail shipments destined for these industries will no longer be allowed under the existing six-month partial ban on wheat imports, which was imposed in July.

Russia is Kazakhstan's main wheat supplier, exporting about 2 million metric tons to the country between September 2025 and July 2026. However, Russian wheat exports are currently under pressure due to stalled shipments through the Azov-Black Sea export corridor.
