Kazakhstan's Gasification Rate Rises as Infrastructure Projects Gain Momentum
Kazakhstan's efforts to expand access to natural gas for its population have made significant progress over the past six years. The country's gasification rate has increased from 51% to 64.2%, with around 4 million people gaining access to natural gas. This means that the total number of Kazakhstanis with access to gas has increased from 9.1 million to 13.1 million.
More than 1,000 settlements have been covered, and 20,000 kilometers of gas distribution networks have been built. In 2025 alone, natural gas reached the homes of more than 354,000 residents in 94 settlements, with around 2,000 kilometers of networks constructed. Infrastructure projects are continuing in 2026, with a total of 40 projects currently underway.
The construction of the Ishim, Astana main gas pipeline is a strategic project for the country, aiming to ensure reliable gas supplies to Astana, Kokshetau, and Petropavlovsk, as well as diversify natural gas supply routes to the country's northern regions. By 2035, the share of the population with access to natural gas is planned to reach 80%.
