KBR Chosen to Develop Large-Scale Electric Natural Gas Facility in Nebraska
KBR, an international firm, has been selected by the Live Oak consortium to deliver front-end engineering design (FEED) work for its planned facility in Norfolk, Nebraska. This project is a significant milestone in the development of large-scale electric natural gas (e-NG), or e-methane, production in the US.
The Live Oak consortium includes TotalEnergies, Osaka Gas, Toho Gas, ITOCHU Corporation, and Tree Energy Solutions (TES). The facility is designed to generate e-NG from renewable hydrogen produced via approximately 250 MW of water electrolysis, combined with biogenic carbon dioxide. This process will yield synthetic methane, addressing the growing demand for reduced-carbon energy options.
KBR's FEED responsibilities cover all aspects of the facility's design and development. Jay Ibrahim, President of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions, expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with the Live Oak consortium and its members on this key project. He highlighted that the contract underscores KBR's established capacity for major energy transition efforts, its strong know-how in hydrogen and electrolysis, robust US delivery capabilities, and a consistent record of supporting TotalEnergies globally.
