The Kentucky State Fair is known for its big rides, crowds, and food. This year, however, some fairgoers are giving more attention to the prices than the food itself.

Prices at the fair include $8 corn on the cob, $12 fried caramel, $15 ice cream, and $17 Dubai chocolate-covered strawberries. Averie Morris noted that prices have gone up significantly in recent years.

Morris and fellow fairgoer Brandi Hopkins said they budget for the fair every year, setting aside between $300 and $400 for a weekend visit. The doughnut burger, featuring two glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts as buns, has increased from around $15 to $16 in price.

Some vendors attribute the rising prices to factors like ingredient costs, quality, and doing business. Jose Martinez, who sells chocolate-covered strawberries for $17, believes customers are getting a good value.
