Kenya Doubles Wheat Price for 2026 Season
The Kenyan government has increased the price of wheat to Ksh5,100 per 90 kilogram bag for the 2026 season. This is a rise from last year's price of Ksh4,750 per bag.
More than 2,000 farmers in Narok, Nakuru, Meru, Laikipia, Nyandarua, and Uasin Gishu counties are expected to benefit from the higher producer price.
The government aims to boost farmer earnings and encourage local production. The revised price follows consultations coordinated by the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), involving cereal growers association representatives, wheat farmers, and cereal millers.
This season's harvest is projected at around one million 90 kilogram bags, down from last year's approximately 1.7 million bags. The lower output is attributed to adverse weather conditions and some farmers shifting to barley cultivation after it fetched Ksh5,300 per bag last season.
