Kenya Raises Wheat Price to Ksh.5,100 per Bag Amid Weather-Related Decline

The Kenyan government has increased the producer price of wheat to Ksh.5,100 per 90-kilogram bag for the 2026 season.

This move aims to improve farmers' incomes while ensuring a stable supply of wheat to millers and consumers, according to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

The decision was made after consultations led by the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), which brought together the Cereal Growers Association, wheat farmers, and cereal millers.

About one million 90-kilogram bags are expected to be harvested this season, down from approximately 1.7 million bags last year due to adverse weather conditions and a shift by farmers to barley.
