Kenya Raises Wheat Producer Price to Sh5,100 per Bag for 2026 Season
The Kenyan government has increased the producer price of locally grown wheat by Sh350 per 90-kilogramme bag for the 2026 season, setting it at Sh5,100.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the decision aims to improve farmers' incomes and encourage domestic production, while prioritizing locally produced grain and ensuring a stable supply of wheat to millers and consumers.
The increase comes as the government projects lower wheat production this season, expecting approximately one million 90-kilogramme bags to be harvested compared to about 1.7 million last year due to adverse weather conditions and a shift by many farmers to barley production.
