Kenyan Government Raises Local Wheat Price by KSh 350 per Bag

The Kenyan government has announced an increase in the producer price of locally grown wheat from KSh 4,750 to KSh 5,100 per 90-kilogram bag for the 2026 season.

The move is expected to benefit over 2,000 wheat farmers across several counties and will support the government's goal of reducing dependence on imported grain.

Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe stated that the new price was agreed upon after consultations with various stakeholders, including the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), the Cereal Growers Association (CGA), wheat farmers, and cereal millers.

In addition to the price increase, the government has commenced an annual wheat mop-up exercise ahead of wheat importation, providing a guaranteed market for locally harvested wheat.
