Khanna Slams Trump Over Record-High Gas Prices Ahead of Labor Day
US Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) has criticized President Donald Trump over record-high gas prices ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend. The national average gasoline price had reached $4.14 per gallon, surpassing the previous Labor Day record of $3.82 set in 2012.
Khanna took to social media platform X on Monday to express his frustration, saying 'There has never been a Labor Day where gas has cost Americans more.' He also questioned what Trump considers 'winning' as he pointed out the current price averages and compared it to the previous record.
The Iran war is being cited as one of the main contributors to the high prices. The US average reached $4.14 heading into Labor Day, with crude oil prices in the $90-per-barrel range due to volatility around the Strait of Hormuz.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright had previously stated that gasoline prices were 'more likely to go down than go up,' but this has not come to pass. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) also blamed the Iran war for higher fuel costs, saying it was 'wreaking havoc on the economy.'
