Kinetico Targets Mpumalanga Gas Fields with 'World-Class' Discovery
A Perth-based energy company, Kinetico Energy, is planning to extract natural gas from 'world-class' fields in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The company aims to supply gas to industry customers before the end of next year.
Kinetico and its local subsidiary Afro Energy have announced plans to secure regulatory approval for a new network of gas production wells in the region. The site is near Eskom's Majuba power station and Transnet's Lilly gas pipeline.
The company claims a '100% drilling success rate' in its four exploration blocks, with all 50 wells encountering gas with large, shallow pay zones. Current assessed reserves are estimated at over six trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
Kinetico executive chairperson Adam Sierakowski has promised a 'very light touch to the environment', stating that the project will not involve fracking.
