King Salman Praises Ties with Pakistan on Independence Day
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have strengthened their bilateral relations in recent years, with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud praising their strong ties on Pakistan's Independence Day. The Saudi king sent a cable of congratulations to President Asif Ali Zardari, highlighting the shared commitment between the two nations to advance cooperation across all fields.
The defense pact signed by the two countries in September 2025 stipulates that an attack on one country will be considered an attack against both. The Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, signed earlier this month with Türkiye, takes this a step further, considering an attack against any of the three countries as an attack against all.
Saudi Arabia has been a key regional ally for Pakistan, providing financial assistance and oil on deferred payment terms during periods of economic stress. The two nations bolstered their economic cooperation in 2024 by signing 34 memoranda of understanding worth $2.8 billion across multiple sectors.
