Konstantin Posiet Sets Sail from Bolshoy Kamen Bay via Northern Sea Route
Russia's second domestically-built ice-class LNG carrier, the Konstantin Posiet, set sail from Bolshoy Kamen Bay in Primorsky Krai on August 18, 2026. The vessel is designed to transport liquefied natural gas and will travel along the Northern Sea Route.
The tanker was built at the Zvezda shipyard, one of Russia's most advanced facilities, to serve the Arctic LNG 2 plant, which is subject to U.S. sanctions. This marks another step in Russia's efforts to overcome Western sanctions aimed at restricting its gas exports and revenue from the conflict in Ukraine.
The Konstantin Posiet will arrive at its destination on August 30, although the exact location has not been disclosed. The shipyard, Zvezda, specializes in building Arc7 ice-class tankers capable of breaking through ice up to two meters thick.
