Korean Producer Prices Post First Decline in 11 Months
Korea's producer prices saw their first decline in 11 months in July, driven by lower global crude oil prices. According to preliminary data from the Bank of Korea (BOK), the producer price index fell 0.4% last month from a month earlier.
The drop marked the first on-month decrease since August 2025. Producer prices are an important indicator of future inflation trends, as they influence the prices businesses charge consumers in the months ahead.
Despite the decline, producer prices rose 7.7% from a year earlier. The BOK attributed the lower oil prices to a cease-fire in the Middle East, which led to a decrease of 0.5% in industrial goods, including petroleum and chemical products.
The government's decision to ease the electricity pricing system for the summer season also contributed to a 0.6% decline in prices of electricity, gas, and water supplies.
