Korean Shipbuilders Gear Up for Gastech 2026 with Cutting-Edge Technologies

South Korea's three major shipbuilders are set to showcase their cutting-edge technologies at Gastech 2026, the world's largest gas industry exhibition. The event will be held from June 14th to 17th at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) in Thailand.

The three shipbuilders, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanwha Ocean, and Samsung Heavy Industries, will display various models of their vessels, including carbon-free LNG carriers. HD Hyundai will showcase five different types of ships, including LNG carriers, floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), very large gas carriers (VLGCs), LNG bunkering vessels, and liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers.

Researchers from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering will also present on topics such as hydrogen maritime transportation and bunkering, ammonia safety, and physics-based digital twins. Hanwha Ocean will display a model of a 174,000-cubic-meter-class carbon-free LNG carrier, which is being developed with an ammonia gas turbine.

Samsung Heavy Industries will showcase its next-generation LNG value-chain technologies centered on floating liquefied natural gas production facilities (FLNGs). The company has secured a large FLNG contract in June and is expected to discuss cooperation plans with executives from global customers at the event.
