KP Assembly Panel Reviews Food Security Performance
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Standing Committee on Food Department met on September 10, 2026, to review the overall performance of the department. Chairman MPA Laiq Muhammad Khan presided over the meeting, which was attended by committee members and MPAs Gurpal Singh, Afshan Hussain, and Shazia Jadoon.
The secretary of the Food Department briefed the committee on the department's responsibilities, including ensuring food security in the province and providing safe and quality food to the public at reasonable prices. The director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority informed the committee about the establishment, scope, and performance of the authority.
The meeting also reviewed the supply system, measures to improve its effectiveness, and efforts to control food prices. The additional secretary informed the committee that the department oversees several important matters, including procurement, storage, rationing, and distribution of wheat and sugar.
