KP Finance Adviser: Pakistan's Wheat Crisis Worsens Faster Than Global Oil Prices
Muzzammil Aslam, Adviser to the KP Chief Minister on Finance, has expressed concern over Pakistan's worsening wheat and flour crisis. He claims that the country's situation is more severe than the global oil crisis.
The crisis has been exacerbated by missing wheat stocks and procurement failures, leading to a sharp increase in food prices. The price of wheat has risen by 6.75 percent in July alone and by 77 percent over the past year.
Muzzammil Aslam questioned how wheat disappeared from the country within just a few months of the harvesting season. He also raised concerns over the accuracy of wheat production figures released by the federal and provincial governments.
The Adviser criticized the Punjab government's decision to impose restrictions on the inter-provincial movement of wheat, calling it a violation of Article 151 of the Constitution.
