Ksi Lisims LNG Secures Major German Export Deal
Ksi Lisims LNG has secured a major long-term export deal with Uniper, a German energy company. The agreement will see Uniper purchase two million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year from the proposed floating facility north of Prince Rupert.
The deal is significant as it marks the first major long-term LNG supply agreement between Canada and Germany, strengthening their strategic energy partnership. It also represents a key step towards securing a final investment decision for the project, which has already received its environmental assessment certificate from the province in September 2025.
The total contracted capacity now stands at seven million tonnes per year (Mtpa), with backers Western LNG aiming for an 80-90% commitment of capacity (around nine to ten Mtpa) for a final investment decision. The project has also secured agreements with Shell, TotalÉnergies, and Germany's SEFE.
The Ksi Lisims facility will be supplied by the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline, which is currently under construction but awaits a final investment decision itself. The pipeline faces legal challenges in the B.C. Supreme Court, adding uncertainty to the project's timeline.
