Kurdistan Oil Production Resumes After Security Disruptions
Oil production in Iraq's Kurdistan region has resumed at between 220,000 and 230,000 barrels per day, following security disruptions and drone attacks. Acting minister of natural resources Kamal Mohammed Salih announced the resumption of operations, citing a relative improvement in the security environment surrounding the sector.
The recent conflict between Iran and Israel led to attacks on energy sector sites and infrastructure, forcing several oil companies to suspend or scale back activity. However, with the return of these companies to work, production has gradually resumed.
Oil remains the primary source of revenue for the Kurdistan region, making the restoration of production critical to its finances. A sustained recovery in output would help provide resources for public spending and financial obligations while easing pressure on the energy sector.
