Kuwait Considers New Oil Pipeline Bypassing Strait of Hormuz
Kuwait is in talks with its Arab neighbors to build a new oil pipeline that would bypass the Strait of Hormuz, said Oil Minister Tariq Sulaiman Al-Roumi. The proposed route would connect Kuwait through Saudi Arabia to either the Red Sea or Oman, while another option links the country to the UAE's Fujairah port.
Al-Roumi described the project as 'huge', and stated that Kuwait is currently seeking the most cost-effective option. Kuwait's oil exports have completely stopped due to Iran's effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has also affected Japan's crude supplies.
Kuwait lies deep inside the Gulf and cannot export oil while the strategic waterway remains blocked. Al-Roumi emphasized that discussions are being held with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other countries to develop the project through consultations.
