Labor Day Gas Prices Shatter Records Amid Iran Conflict
Americans are bracing for record-breaking gas prices this Labor Day weekend. According to AAA, the national average price for regular gasoline has soared to $4.14 per gallon on September 3, 2026.
This marks a new high for the holiday, surpassing the previous record of $3.82 set in 2012. The Pacific Northwest is particularly hard hit, with Oregon's average price reaching $4.99 per gallon and Washington averaging $5.47 per gallon, making them two of the most expensive markets in the nation.
AAA spokesperson Marie Dodds attributes the surge to the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has disrupted global oil supplies. 'The conflict has sent crude oil prices dramatically higher,' she explained. 'So when the cost of your basic ingredient goes up, so does your end product.'
