Ladakh Slashes Natural Gas VAT to 5% in Clean Energy Push
Ladakh has reduced its value-added tax (VAT) on natural gas from 21% to 5%. The move aims to promote affordable clean energy and improve living conditions for residents in the Union Territory.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena announced the VAT reduction, which includes CNG and PNG. This decision brings Ladakh in line with states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a sustainable future.
The reduced VAT is expected to offset the high costs of transporting energy due to Ladakh's challenging terrain and climate. Saxena stated that this move will give a significant boost to the Centre's plan to roll out city gas distribution networks across Ladakh, providing affordable piped gas to households.
