Laopu Gold Surges as International Gold Price Hits $4,532
The international gold price has broken through a key historical resistance level, reaching $4,532 per ounce on August 19. This surge in prices has driven a broad rally in the gold sector of capital markets and pushed domestic retail gold jewelry prices higher across the board.
However, despite the elevated gold prices, gold-related consumer stocks have failed to post significant gains. Laopu Gold (06181.HK), which focuses on high-end traditional gold, has seen its share price surge from HK$287.60 at the end of July to HK$390, with a strong rebound.
Analysts note that demand for traditional gold jewelry remains under pressure, with consumers opting for lightweight pieces with refined designs that complement everyday attire. The market is shifting from 'pricing by weight and valuing quantity' to 'emphasizing craftsmanship and prioritizing design and occasions of wear.'
Peak-season consumption is expected to rebound in the second half, with a clear rationale for margin improvement. According to an analysis by Guojin Securities, leading brands such as Laopu Gold have further strengthened their control over luxury-oriented distribution channels and pricing power.
