Larsen Calls for Review of Oil Spill Response Plans Amid Pipeline Plans
A Washington state congressman is calling for a review of oil spill response plans following news of a planned pipeline from Alberta to British Columbia.
Rep. Rick Larsen, the top Democrat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has sent a letter to the U.S. Coast Guard seeking details about coordination efforts around a Canada-U.S. pollution contingency plan.
The congressman says the pipeline will bring more oil tanker traffic to the Salish Sea, increasing the risk of catastrophic oil spills.
Larsen wants answers from the U.S. Coast Guard on how the two countries coordinate preparation for oil spills that could harm marine ecosystems and environments in both nations.
