Larsen Seeks Review of Oil Spill Response Plans Amid Pipeline Expansion
Washington State Congressman Rick Larsen is calling for an update to oil spill response plans in light of the recent announcement of a new pipeline from Alberta to British Columbia's Roberts Bank terminal.
The pipeline, which will bring more oil tanker traffic to the Salish Sea just a few kilometers from the US-Canada border, has raised concerns about the risk of catastrophic oil spills.
Larsen sent a letter to a top US Coast Guard official this week seeking details about coordination efforts around a Canada-US pollution contingency plan.
