Latvia Slaps 300% Tariff on Russian Grain Exports
Latvia's government is planning to impose a 300% tariff on grain imports from Russia and Belarus, according to Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs.
The new restrictions could significantly complicate Russian grain exports, which currently use Latvian territory and ports as an alternative route to international markets.
Russian exporters have been redirecting cargo to Baltic routes due to disruptions in shipments through the Black Sea and Azov Sea.
Last week, Latvia and Lithuania considered ending the transit of Russian grain through their ports, which would further limit options for Russian exporters.
The 46.3 million tons of grain exported through Black Sea and Azov Sea ports in the 2025/26 season accounted for around 90% of Russia's total seaborne grain exports.
