Liberised Gas Market: Reservoir Link Eyes Expansion Amid Rising Demand
Reservoir Link Energy Bhd is positioning itself to benefit from Malaysia's liberalised gas market after becoming one of the few listed companies to hold both a gas shipping licence and a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import licence.
This dual-licence status gives the company an edge over peers that only hold a gas shipping licence, according to executive director Thien Chiet Chai.
The licences enable Reservoir Link to participate across the full gas value chain, from sourcing LNG overseas to delivering gas to end customers.
Thien said the company is looking to leverage future regasification terminal (RGT) developments, including Petronas' planned terminal in Lumut and Gas Malaysia's proposed terminal in Yan, to supply gas directly to power producers.
He added that securing LNG supply remains the biggest hurdle in commercialising the licences, with global competition for cargoes intense due to growing demand for reliable energy sources.
