Libyan Security Forces Halt Oil Production Amid Demands for NOC Integration

Libya's oil production has hit a significant roadblock as security forces have halted operations at key oilfields and a crucial pumping station. The National Oil Corporation (NOC) confirmed on Tuesday that these forces had closed a vital valve on the Hamada-Zawiya crude-loading pipeline, bringing production to a grinding halt.

The Petroleum Facilities Guard is demanding to be financially and administratively integrated into the NOC, rather than operating under the defense ministry. This move comes amidst ongoing production issues stemming from Libya's political upheaval since 2011.

The Guards have already initiated a partial production cut, threatening a complete shutdown if their demands are not met. A total shutdown could deal a severe blow to Libya's economy, which heavily relies on oil revenues.
