Libya's Tripoli Oil Depot Hit by Suspected Drone Attack Amid Fuel Crisis
A suspected drone attack has targeted Libya's Tripoli oil depot, sparking concerns over fuel security amidst an ongoing crisis in the region. On Thursday, the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company reported that a flying object, believed to be a drone, entered the depot's airspace and fell next to one of the fuel tanks without causing any injuries.
The company condemned the attack, urging authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and identify those responsible. The oil depot is a critical facility in the region, supplying fuel to cities across Libya, which have been experiencing severe shortages for about a week.
Last month, similar attacks by explosive-laden drones targeted vital facilities in Zawiya, including oil storage tanks, water desalination plants, and power generation facilities. In response to the crisis, the interior minister recently announced the closure of 490 fuel stations, citing smuggling operations as a major contributor to the shortage.
